Forest sector gave 1.35 billion euro to Latvia

The export income in forest sector this year increased by 57.29 million euro or 4.4% compared to same period last year, largely based on the excellent performance of the first months of this year. It shows in the Ministry of Agriculture Forest Department summary according to the Central Statistical management data.

The sector has set another new record in export income. Forest sector export predominance over imports reached 866,86 million euro, which is the highest rate in history. This is a contribution of forest sector to a positive balance of Latvia’s foreign trade. Along with the increase in export earnings of wood products, imports have also increased – by 24.85 million euro or 5.4% – and reached 481.35 million euro. As before, the most expensive in import is paper, cardboard and articles thereof, which is 140.8 million euro or 29.3% of the total forest sector import.
